    An Attempt to answer on collocation,verb on hold:-

    (1) The Chinese Meaning I take/have in hand to bring /have him under control of this young boy. He must be taken in hand.of his body.

    As Indirect before direct ,the "him" meaning the body of him.

    (2)The Chinese Meaning "hold him by the hand" =hold someone's hand

    =take somebody's hand

    Also take somebody by the hand

    = hold someone's hand in order to take him (young boy) somewhere.

    =hold him by the hand.(as shown in question)(and might be the Chinese meaning)

    =hold hands with somebody.
