沒想到去劍湖山跨年幾個小時回來，竟然已經增加兩三題最佳解答的點數，莫名其妙變成實習生了。近來我一直送點數，想當個永遠的初學者一級（維持2,400點左右），結果還是人算不如天算......這也是 2011 的第一個驚奇。

To my surprise, after returning from Janfusan for the New Year's Countdown Celebration, two or three best answer points had been added to my Yahoo Knowledge account, and all of a sudden I was upgraded to the Intern level. All the while I had been giving away free points, intending to stay as a beginner for good (by maintaining roughly 2400 pts at all times); however, as God's will came into play, this turned into my first surprise of 2011.

直譯: over-the-yearend ← (as an adj.), as in "over-the-yearend holidays".

意譯: new year countdown ← but you can rarely say "new year countdown holidays".

To H.M.C. (Pt. 1):

I fully respect your position. We could treat the New Year as a ridiculous day, too, but I'd rather look at 2011 with some good spirit. Hence my query for a translation here. As for the Yahoo Knowledge points, you are free to regard them as monoply's fake bills.

Some people feel comfortable staying as a Beginner. The other day one of them almost cursed when he got 700+ points at one shot and had to become a "大濕" (his wording) again.
