請問國外大學 Doctorate 跟 PhD 的差別跟翻譯

All Engineering, Science, Fine Art, … if it awards PhD, they are all Doctor of Philosophy. The reason is what you are trained is to think in a philosophical way. There is NO doctor of (mechanical) engineering, science or the same sort.

When people have PhD, usually they focus more on research. When people have MD or PsyD, they focus more on clinic. However, there are group of people that they do both research and clinic.

For MD and PhD, you usually can find them in a University's Medical School and Hospital. These people will have both research and clinic at both Medical School and Hospital. It means, they not only see patients but also teach and do research.

Also, in US, most of the medical school offer MD/PhD program. It means, you will have both MD and PhD degrees by the time you graduate. It usually will ask you to study MD first, then PhD.

By the way, this MD/PhD program is very limited, it needs a committee to determine whom to accept into the program. It can be as little as just ONE person to be accepted into the program, or as many as 25 (like Washington U in St. Louis, the 3rd best Medical School in US).
