a hot object has a high temperature and has a high thermal energy.
"heat" is ambiguous, and sometimes means high temperature and sometimes means high thermal energy, totally different things, so you have to look at context.
Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the atoms or molecules in the system.
technical definition: Thermal energy refers to several distinct thermodynamic quantities, such as the internal energy of a system; type of energy transfer (as is work); or for the characteristic energy of a degree of freedom in a thermal system.
basically, two different objects can have the same temperature, but different amounts of thermal energy.
