If somebody is willing to put their life on the line for a country,

it's a screwed up country who would not grant them citizenship.

I think so for two reasons. First of course is they have served this country honorably by their military service. Secondly is they chose a path of legal employment as opposed to choosing one of crime and being a burden on society. Those two things stand for something in my mind and what kind of person that non citizen is and probably the type of person we want to be a part of this country and who helped make it what it was in the past.

I don’t think it should be an automatic grant of citizenship however if they are otherwise qualified then the time that they spent in the service could be counted as pry of their waiting period for citizenship

Clean record and all that Jazz, I believe yes. If they serve for some minimum then they should have a separate track they can take if they so choose to do so. As to what that minimum should be, I'm not sure, 6 years, ten years of active duty?

There should be a scorecard and yes, military service scores a lot of points but doesn't put you over the goal line.
