Why do religious people that come to this section keep emphasizing Jesus and God?
I'm sure when you stumbled upon this question, you thought: what the ... is this guy talking about, of course we emphasize God and Jesus, that's what it is all about, right?
Well that wasn't really what I'm asking here (honestly I used the words God and Jesus only to make sure this question ends up in the right section). I would be considered an Atheist, although I am not against religion or anything. I think core religion is a good thing for some people (just not me). However, I wonder why the emphasis is so on believing and serving God while I think that is not really what the entire religion is for. Never do I hear a religious person bringing up the moral codes that are in, for example, the Bible (or any other religious book). Because although I don't believe in God or anything, I still value those moral codes, like love thy neighbour and such. These don't really have nothing to do with religion of all but are in all those religious books. I think that's what religion is for: guiding people to a morally and ethically right path. But then why are so many people only talking about serving God and Atheists going to hell, whereas it's actually about the moral codes? (I'm not saying every religious person does this. It's mainly the people on this section, so don't feel offended if you are not who I'm talking about).
By the way, randomly quoting psalms and passages from the bible isn't what I call really understanding the moral guidelines in the bible. That's just trying to prove a point by using vague sources, honestly.

Tim the moral codes are fine but being moral or good is not what gets one to heaven there is nothing we can do to earn our way there that is why so much talk about Christ it is what He did and His grace that we are saved and even after we are saved we still sin because we all fall short of the glory of God once we believe we are justified and declared righteous by God and when God looks at us He sees the righteousness of Jesus inside of us for that is what happens when we believe Christ becomes apart of us and that is why we do good things because we are saved not to be saved you see the entire Bible is all about Christ the laws and the morals are there to makes us aware of how much we need a savior for they are impossible to keep with out Jesus. Jesus raised the bar when He came in the New Testament in the Old Testament if we committed a sin it was a sin In the New Testament if we as much as entertain the thought it is a sin that is why we need Jesus for through what He did on the cross we are righteous in God eyes

'When outsiders who have never heard of God’s law follow it more or less by instinct, they confirm its truth by their obedience. They show that God’s law is not something alien, imposed on us from without, but woven into the very fabric of our creation. There is something deep within them that echoes God’s yes and no, right and wrong. Their response to God’s yes and no will become public knowledge on the day God makes his final decision about every man and woman. The Message from God that I proclaim through Jesus Christ takes into account all these differences'. Romans 2:14-16 (MSG)
We talk about God because He is the source of the moral codes we hold dear. Thats what these verses are talking about. He is there all the time, waiting for us to recognize Him in ourselves and then get to know Him:)

I think it's because of something St. Paul said. But I tend to agree with you. People are too rigid about the definition of faith. If you believe in an ultimate good, then I believe you have a certain amount of faith. And that's not the only example

You need to go to the CRITICISM forum against religion--since you cannot tell anyone how to express their faith--as they see or need to--this is a free society and not a dictatorship--freedom of expression and religion cannot be told how it is to be done--or else the person is wrong--create your own issue forum about this.

peace to you and to all truth seekers.

please send me this good question. it is ok to question religion / faith. however, you need to find the truth [82%] and, accepted it as the base for strong faith. now, Morals & Ethics comes from the Creator as demands not as a good deed for all to do. [atheists get rewards in this life only]
life must be lived with:
worshipping the Creator and obeying Him - do good - avoid evil.
majority of people think that freedom is absolute! we obey traffic lights for our own safety, but, we [most of us] ignore the key to Heaven.
are you aware that removing harmful objects from roads are in the moral codes? you might enter Heaven due to a very tiny good deed.
