Do you think Bill O'reilly is playing a character on Fox news?
So he would appeal to the far right because he knows they will be devoted as long as he keeps playing same old song over and over again. They will buy your books and keep your ratings stable? You like like a fan base.

I don't think that Bill really appeals to the conservatives. He is in favor of gay marriage, for example. He is very rich and he appeals to people of his class--rich moderates. For a true conservative Catholic and a real intellectual, look not to Bill O'Reilly but to William F. Buckley. Personally, I can't stand O'Reilly and almost never watch him, but then I seldom watch Fox News as I get my news from the internet.

Everyone on FOX and MSNBC is playing a character. I used to be in debate club during high school, and I had a lot of experience with playing as a bunch of characters with no actual opinions on anything. In debate club, I had to make speeches that were extremely conservative to extremely socialist. I had to be able to make a speech and take whatever side that was available.

Of course he is. So is Piers Morgan, Jon Stewart, etc etc.
They are entertainers under the guise of political debating, except maybe Jon Stewart, who is supposed to be that.
