Atheists ..... would it be safe to say ..... that?
atheists would be politically far left, since it takes a leap of faith to be conservative?
Thanks for these answers !
What I was thinking was that to be conservative would mean to have more faith and hope in mankind to govern self, rather than having big government (a limited number of "special" thinkers, so to speak) telling us what we need, and how the population will pay for the "wonderful" ideas.
Fried Kitten: Doesn't conservative government point in the direction of self-governed man (even though in this day and age we are not at that point yet), even man governed by God, if you will?
Hobgobli: Thank you for enlightening me.
What: thanks, i am not surprised
Judy: oddly enough politicians play on religion just for getting the vote, so they are (subconsciously) hand in hand, so to speak, even if we are not aware of it yet
Jay: I wanted to hear from atheists, yes?
Nous: Your writing would have me believe that you think this question is an attack on a group of people, but no. I would never vote for Obama, but this fact is not an attack, simply the truth.
You mentioned BAD Christians. I am guessing that you mean that these would be Christians who don't fully understand the truth yet, and so feel a need to "vent" the frustration. And so I wonder if I am perceived to be of this "BAD" label by asking a specific group of people their opinions and thoughts. Perception can easily be self-deception in disguise. The trick is to find the origin of thought before going down the wrong road, and then when the road gets bumpy, feeling that a defense is needed, rather than just simply turning around.
If you care to share with us how you think about political position and atheism as a core value, that would be OK.

Studies show atheists are more likely to vote liberally as opposed to conservatively in North America. It's not true for all atheists, but the sentence "Atheists tend to be liberal" is correct.

That said, atheism does not have any dogma, which is where some atheists may object to the statement - generalizations about commonalities between atheists may be used to support the erroneous claim that atheism is a religion.

Anti atheism is doing so much damage to Christianity that it is in reality anti Christianity – David Manley
It takes in reality only one to make a quarrel. It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favour of vegetarianism, while the wolf remains of a different opinion. - William Ralph Inge.
Why so blind to what causes the backlash against christianity?
ALL the other religions and atheists live in peace and are ONLY attacked by BAD christians which causes all GOOD christians to despair at the damage they do!
Up until about 40 years back Christianity was thriving and there was no conflict with others but in just those few short years the modern christians have become intolerant, hate filled, bigoted and persecuting resulting in a growing backlash against christianity and causing christianity to loose over ten percent in less than a decade with the loss accelerating!
The self destruction of Christianity is underway and the only thing that can stop it is to abandon the terrible human emotions, seek to rediscover the idea of a loving god and act like it!

No. It would be safe to say that atheists do not believe in any gods. That is the only thing all atheists agree on.
Politics, unless it requires the proclamation of a god, does not pertain to a uniform atheistic belief. I do not see how either the left or right would require a "leap of faith" as you put it. I would say your inability to comprehend the meaning of the word atheist and your inability to coherently comprehend political ideologies shows you lack intellect and understanding of complex topics.

THAT WAS A SADLY TWISTED PERSPECTIVE THERE BUDDY
One of your statements makes no sense.
You say:
‘To be conservative would mean to have more faith and hope in mankind
to govern self, rather than having big government’.
Well, big government is made of people isn’t it?
It is atheists who believe that humans can govern themselves and that they
don’t need god(s) as leadership figures.
It is conservatives who don’t have faith in mankind and who constantly revert
to the concept of god and religion to answer difficult questions (rather than
seeking answers from humans, i.e. mankind).

No, I know many conservative atheists. We share atheism as something in common but politically we are all over the map.
Look at Pat Tillman.

Nope, atheists can belong to all manner of political ideas - I'm a centrist, and I believe in balance and compromise. You can't please everyone, but one extreme or the other is more likely to outright piss people off.

no. most of us are middle of the road politically. and what does politics have to do with a belief in god or not.

Oh really......this last three years has gone exactly the way this conservative predicted.
