Why smoke cigarettes?
Now that it has been shown that cigarettes contain poisons like arsenic; are addictive and harder than heroin to give up without withdrawal symptoms; cause the DNA in your body to mutate; make your clothes smell; reduce overall fitness; cause emphysema or chronic cough; cause lung cancer in some people; cost a quarter of a million dollars over a lifetime to maintain the habit - Why do people still begin to smoke? Why do they have a second one if the first was just curiosity? And if the reason is peer pressure, is there anything else you do for the same reason?

That really is an interesting question. I know a lot of under aged boys and girls (I am one too) who smoke. I personally don't smoke cigarets because i do not believe it will help me rise in the community I live in, nor is it very healthy. I cannot guarantee you and me share this opinion, but I think smoking will not raise your self esteem, nor will it help you in any other way. Therefore, I can't answer your question properly, because I ask myself the same thing every time I see a kid like myself holding a cigaret.

I don't know why girls do it, but guys do it to attract girls. For some reason girls are attracted to guys who smoke more than the guys who don't. Girls think guys who smoke look "cooler" than guys who don't. They might want the guy to quit after dating him or especially marry him, but if he didn't smoke, the girl most likely would not have dated him in the first place. It's been a proven fact tha girls like "jerks" opposed to goody two shows. So if a guy "can't even smoke" then it's a major turn off for women.

They are unhealthy.. and those who smoke due to peer pressure shouldn't be proud of themselves. Whenever I smoke it's due to a need of stress relief. It calms you down somewhat. Don't get hooked, though.. they won't have any effect in the long run. like any other addiction e.g. caffeine or energy drinks.

i rarely smoke, but when i do, i prefer to be alone and not be seen. they are not cool. however, i feel like i calm down when i smoke a cigarette. probably it's more of a mental thing
