Rats and teen angst?

I've only had my rat a few months and I think his new mood swings and aggressive behaviour is because of teen angst. Is this possible? Will he ever go back to being the sweet little ratty he was?

Male rats do tend to go through a 'phase' of aggression, spraying, nipping, humping - all that stuff. I call this teen angst as well. It fades off in about a month, or at least, it always has in my experience.

Rats are pretty smart little animals, maybe a bit like dogs, they will much behave in a manner you treat them. You treat them like little sweetharts, that is how they behave. Mistreat them, all they do is learn fear and as bad as any rat.

All of my rats were some of the best, loving pets I have had.

Male rats can get a little moody when they mature, but still good natured if treated properly.

Get them neutered, they calm a lot and even their urine doesn't stink as bad.

    Update:

You might consider getting him neutered, helped my male a bit. Only time any ever bit (rare) was if they were scared of something.

I've owned a few rats and none of them, had any "teen angst." Small animals often react to how they are handled and treated. Making sport of it or teasing it, etc. can give you a fearful pet. Find out who the awful person is that is mistreating your rat and make that person stop.
