Vegan views on backyard chicken eggs?
Rescued chickens from a sanctuary.. I got told the chickens eat the eggs but..... I used to take one from the 5 eggs laid and the other 4 were never eaten so I did it for a few months and they never ate the eggs??? I never take all the eggs just one but the rest end up wasted?

Good for you. I am glad you rescued some chickens. although do chickens living in a sanctuary need rescuing? WAIT! You didn't steal the chickens did you?
Anyway, if you saved the chickens, and are taking good care of them, and they don't seen to want or use or need their eggs, then I think you should have them (and eat them). After all you are taking care of them. the chickens should be a little appreciative.
Also its sort of your job now not to waste the eggs. If you give the eggs to non-vegans, that means that they need to buy less eggs and that continues to reduce the amount of animal cruelty in the world. Also free eggs means happy neighbors who won't complain to the police about their chicken stealing neighbor. :)
Just don't give the eggs to teenagers. they have some strange ideas of how to put eggs to good use.

Chickens don't eat their own eggs. That wouldn't be very good for survival of the species, now would it? If you just leave the eggs there they'll eventually rot and then you'll most likely get rats (who love eggs even if they are rotten). Better to either keep the eggs yourself or give them away, as Louis said. As long as you're taking care of the chickens and keeping them healthy and happy, you shouldn't feel bad about taking the eggs.
