Employment Agencies Act 1973 - charging applicants?

The Employment Agencies Act 1973 (Charging Fees to Workers) Regulations 1976 (SI 1976 No 714)) generally prevents employers and agencies from charging fees to workers for finding or seeking to find them jobs. As I understand it, this means that you can't charge somoene to view job adverts or apply for jobs online.

The act makes reference to "certain" exceptions within the entertainment industry though, but I can't find details on what these exceptions are.

Any information you can find on this would be extremely helpful.

Should probably add - this is UK law.

I can only tell you what I know. Up until the early-1980's up north I was able to buy my jobs. When i came south in the mid-1980's I was still able to buy a job but the law was crushing down on those agencies that did that and promptly those employment agencies stopped doing that. So I was under the impression it was a state law that halted them, not a federal law. So I'm not so sure the Act you're talking about is the same one that refers to office jobs since the year is wrong. Where you are you might want to check that state's statutes and see if there is anything listed. On another note I know that states were trying to get retail sales to pay taxes to states if someone made a purchase on the internet and I'm not sure if that became law or not. There was a time where you had to submit your own taxes rather than the online stores charging the state taxes. So what I'm saying is that the internet is still a new thing that states are trying to figure out. I'm not so sure federal is connected with that. It also seems to be that the employment agencies now collect money from the employer and no longer collect from the employee....so that means before the mid-1980's you'd open your heart to the hiring agency, but after the mid-1980's you'd best keep your mouth shut about your faux pas since they were standing in the the employer and you want to show them your best side to get hired.
