What do Sin, Cos, and Tan mean?

Hello, I've recently seen the words Sin, Tan, and Cos in an equation and was wondering what the meant. I want to start learning more about them and maybe start learning how to do problems with the. Can someone give me an easy definition of what they mean, and if possible, and example of where they can be used? Thanks a ton.

    Standard trigonometric functions. See Wikipedia or Khan Academy tutorials. Too much to explain in a single answer.

    Keep in mind two things. These functions can take inputs in at least two formats. Also they are not exclusively used to deal with angles or triangles.
