Are hunters aware that some of your 308, 30-30 and 223 ammo will be illegal due to the pending ATF changes?

A lot of noise has been made about the 5.56 Green Tip "ban" but I'm just curious if any hunters have heard about the impact on traditional deer hunting rounds like 308 and 30-30? They will be illegal to shoot in CA at all and any bullets that are more than 25% copper like Hornady GMX will be illegal to shoot anywhere. Why isn't anyone (other than me) aware of this?

更新:

OK. I'll clarify for everyone. Here's a link to the actual notice.

http://www.atf.gov/sites/default/files/assets/Libr...

Now go to page 12 where they start to define the categories. Category I basically says "we're ignoring 22 rim fire." Then read Category II.

Those of us following this issue are well aware of it being a foothold to ban many other calibers, and all bi-metal and gilding FMJ rifle rounds, which means most all cheap ammo.

The ruling could also threaten solid copper and similar hunting and self defense bullet. Obama and the antigun people have been crafting this one for a few years, and setting the chess pieces up in their favor. It has just recently come out as to their intentions, but anyone with half a brain should have seen it coming for years, as they have been working on banning solid rifle projectiles for a while, and lead projectiles by the EPA. Ban both of those, and there isn't much left.

Now that the uninformed masses are learning about it, they are finally stepping up and letting their congressmen and Senators know they want a law to protect and exempt all rifle ammunition, so many Republicans are drafting and introducing such legislation in congress right now, but many Democrats are still toeing the Communist line of banning firearms and ammo for average citizens.

Get in the fight or sit on your rear and lose.

There is certainly a concern that if the president can ban one type of ammo he could do the same thing again to another type. But I think you're mis-understanding the proposed ban.

Ammo with a metal core is legal as long as its classified as rifle ammo, not handgun ammo. That's because the law against "armor piercing" ammo applies specifically to handguns.

The current proposal is to re-classify 556 ammo as a handgun round, which would make the rounds with metal cores illegal. The argument is that because some people have built AR-15's with short barrels and classified them as pistols, the 556 ammo could be used in a gun that is technically considered a handgun, and therefore the gun grabbers want it treated as handgun ammo.

I doubt they will be able to pull such an absurd stunt with something like 3030, or .308 ammo since those are clearly rifle calibers, but then again the current proposal is pretty absurd also, so who knows what they'll try next.

To add to what the others said, California's ban is on hunting ammo with lead in it. The tree huggers there claimed it was poisoning the ground.

Actually as written you are 100% correct it could be used to outlaw every round that is currently used for hunting and target practice. Technically there is not a common sporting round that has not been put into a handgun configuration from the .308, .270, .243, 7MM and so on. The point is to get the law passed against one round and to expand it to encompass the rest as the cries dissipate. It is a lot easier to attack it one caliber at a time. So what round is next? Could it be yours?

Do you even have a job. What a disgrace you don't even have real income.

Got a source for that, because my understanding is the Green Tip M855 is being targeted as an armor piercing HANDGUN round...because of the upsurge in AR-15 pistol configurations. 308 isn't a handgun round, and as far as I know, 30-30 is only available in one Magnum Research revolver...hardly what I would call "commonly available".

    Hopefully none of that happens

" Why isn't anyone (other than me) aware of this? "

Because nobody else is digging for news inside of your ***.
