Why do software writers insist on scrambling around all the controls at every upgrade?
Yahoo answers has been "upgraded". Apparently. At least all the controls are moved to new places and I have to find them all over again as if I had never used Answers before. Yet they (mostly) do the same things as before. So why, why, WHY, so they always do this to me! Not just Yahoo answers, but every web page, software product, and even operating system. Windows 8 is TOTALLY different. How does putting a button in a different place or changing it's shape, color, or even name make it better? It is NOT easier to find. It is HARDER to find. Are these changes all aimed at NEW users? Do they think people who never considered using it before will be more likely to try it if it looks different? And do they not care about the long times users who already know where every control is and can go to it quickly? What is wrong with adding the functionality they want to add while leaving the buttons that do basically the same thing as before in the SAME PLACE!

If you had never used the previous version or the previous website design, you wouldn't be miffed. In fact, though, I also cannot find anything on the new U.S. version of answers.yahoo.com, so I am using the Canadian version that hasn't changed. If enough of us use the Canadian or U.K. version and the U.S. version becomes a ghost town, Yahoo will stop and think about their new idea. The web designers can only justify their work if people use the site. When the user base shrinks, the boss calls a meeting and heads roll. Vote with your cursor-click by using http://ca.answers.com/ or http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/ and see how fast they fix the insanity.
As for Microsoft products, there is no hope. When MS offers pure junk, like the first iteration of Vista, users simply avoid it and wait for "7", using XP for years more than they should. Microsofties don't drop MS in favor of Apple (at least not in the U.S.), because they are too conservative to warm up to Apple and too loyal to give up on MS. Some will go to Linux, but that doesn't stick for long, since the game list for Linux can be written on a matchbook cover.
