Jesus was talking of fear thoughts ..... but what then did He mean ....?
with the words, "be not afraid," when there is so much to be afraid of in this age?
How is this a practical statement if a problem presents itself and seems to have power?

Jesus Christ always is so very interested in us 'hearing,' so we can be taken, beyond the normal audible dinning ways our ears hear one another, my friend.. and I know you understand what I am suggesting. Most of us hear the normal atomospheric vibrations which cause us to hear the sounds, so we can communicate better, understanding normal information transmitted...but what He desires most, is that we Hear and awaken inside to all that God offers us. The kind of spiritual awakening that transcends normal hearing, where we BEcome Joint Heirs with Him...He said we would do greater things, but first we need to Listen to all the things He wanted us to Know.. so we could be set free through His Grace and Life.
There will always be circumstances, that will project themselves to rule over us. What He is saying is our emotions can rule us, but to not be afraid... this world is temporal ~ if we are set, and re side in the natural world, we can't take up residence in the Spirit with God the way He invited us too. We must be in the world but not of the world. Living in Peace is an inside job, first, as His Knowledge awakens us from sleep, we move into blessed states of rest.
Reposed in rest. He wants us to have the 'Upper Room' experience in 'all things'. Rising beyond fear is one of treasures awaiting us.
That does not mean we are oblivious to what is happening on earth, but that we face all things with Godly wisdom, so all we do comes from the sacred place of Blessed Peace found in Him >>> to BEcome as He is... that is His aspiration for us.To walk over the waters, the seas of humanity ... with confidence.
Essentially, He wanted to speak to that part of us, so our core essence would come into the kind of Spriitual awarness He has... to be like minded. (Most often our lower aspect is the receptor of knowledge without wisdom ~ we can intellectualize this, but do we live this state, in 'all ways. and through all things?") . Most often our, hearing (perceptions') proceeds from the flesh, but He was speaking of coming into a Spiritual perception in the highest degrees, so we could experience a spiritual awakening in fullness, in the area of our true essence...
When Jesus "gave place" to certain words, He wanted us to notice these especially well.
Jesus Christ was poised, in all instances.....
if we are to move beyond our general tendencies we need to clear a "place" for His Grace to work in us.
He wants us all to come into Christhood... all the way... so we have the accession of Power He had and has, throught God's Spirit.
Great question...
May His and our Father's peace, grace and mercy be with us all.

How is this a practical statement if a problem presents itself and seems to have power?
When His word manifests in us in all ways, we will be at peace, and there will be no fear in us, as nothing can tear down what God is building.
He doesn't say, here to not have reverence for God, but to fear not that which the world can do... Live in The Peace the Spirit offers...
JC also said... Greater things we will do... but we can't do, until we rise above fears... that hold us down. We are limited by fear, as it inactivates, paralyzes us, and God sees this as a great enemy... which prevents us from excelling in all things, as Christ knew... so He leaves us with such sayings...
Fear not, for I am always with you, nor will I forsake you.... in weakness, I will make you strong... many promises have been given to reassure us, so our confidence grows...
our fear to BEcome all that we can be, needs to be questioned... more... so we grasp hold of what God's intent really is... This is a very wide spectrum... for us to explore, as we Give Place to many Obstacles ~ unrational fear is one of these places.
I love Jesus Christ for many reasons, but mostly because His messages have power to transform us. Power that brings us into abundant life. The kind that nurtures all men.
sorry for the length, words are not flowing with ease this day.

The scripture that comes to my mind is this one: (and I'll include an understanding after that)...
Answer:
Matthew 10:28
says, "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
Then we have these scriptures:
Luke 12:32 Fear Not
Mark 5:36 Do not fear
Mark 5:36 Do not fear
Mark 6:50 Have no fear
Matthew 1:20 Do not fear
Matthew 10:26 Have no fear
and many more.
There WOULD be lots to fear IF there was no God, wouldn't there.
If Jesus had not come and redeemed us, we would have plenty to fear.
You know how the bible teaches about being 'born again', 'born from above',
right?
That new birth then is 'in Christ', and is invincible, cannot be hurt or touched
EXCEPT by fear.
Fear is to the new spirit as toxin is to the body....damaging.
We have a choice. What will we behold? Those fearful things, or
how the Lord will lead us.
The problem presents itself for you to learn it does not have to have power,
and that you can disrobe that power. But that will be your work. That will
be my work. We then build our faith, do we not?
And isn't it worth building?
I was given a really tough person to work with in my life, and most say this
person is 'impossible' and I've found that also. But then in prayer,
I 'got', 'why would I give you an EASY problem?'
So it is wonderful that the Lord trusts you enough to have given you
a harder problem. We are the ones who must make those adjustments.
You will. I will. And we will. Praise Our Lord.

Jesus didn't just say "Be not afraid" as a general proverb. He said "be not afraid" when he was getting on the boat with the disciples because they thought he was a ghost (says the text).

Beloved, as God has nothing to fear, as He is the Almighty God, why would His image and likeness have anything to fear. Who made Adam afraid he was naked thus hiding from the one that loves Him infinitely and is his very existence? Great question! Love - D
"And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?" (Genesis 3:10-11)
