my waist grew 3 inches and i gained 20 lbs could this be result of weight lifting?

Hi , i was originally 153 , i lift weight 3 times a week , no cardio , my pant size was 31 ( i'm 5' 7 ) then i changed my diet , i ate more healthy stuff and eat each time i finished weight lift , i now lift 5 days a week and i drink tons of water and eat more vegetables and fruit, my question is how the heck did my pant size gone up , i am now 32 and i weight 173 ( 20 lbs gain!!! ) wth did i do wrong ??? i know that if u keep lifting u might not gain weight but u will be more tone and pant size should not increase right? and my body just look bulk up but not definition, can u guys help?

    You can put on weight and inches by weight lifting as muscles take the place of fat and muscles weigh more than fat weighs. You need to get a body fat index test. That will tell the ratio of the fat to muscle in your body and it will tell you if you are over weight. You need to do some other exercise in addition to lifting weights to smooth out those new muscles which are tending to bunch up. Swimming is a great exercise and it puts no strain on your joints, an evil to be careful of when exercising. You might also want to increase your proportion of lean meat and protein to the carbohydrates in your diet. Lean protein will help take off some of that remaining fat. Your discipline and dedication are remarkable and enviable, you just need to learn how to fine tune your body, your look and your diet. I'm sure you will do great once you get those down.

    Yes, weight lifting alone gets you more muscle AND fat. In order to lose weight, you need to do cardiovascular workout such as running, swimming, tennis, etc.
