Pokemon - gateway drug?

I started watching/playing Pokemon because my kids got into it (they are 7 and 5)

Man now I'm freaking addicted!!!

But both my kids started their love for all things Japanese with inuyasha and then The Mario and Kirby video game series...That lead to Pokemon.

Well, I suppose that for many of teenagers who watch anime now, Pokemon was likely to be their first anime to watch. I mean, c'mon, it was mega-popular back then, along with Digimon and Dragon Ball Z and what not. It's just something a lot of people grew up with, so our generation is probably to first American generation to be so submersed in anime.

I personally was a Pokemon fan back in my day, but I didn't start really watching anime until about a year ago. And my "gateway" was mostly the fact that I go to an arts school which means anime fans everywhere.
