Americans in Sweden?

I was wondering if anyone had any experience living or going to school in sweden. I am an american who would like to go there possibly to study abroad next year. Only problem is I only go to a community college right now, although my GPA is a 3.98 and I am friendly enough with some faculty to get some recommendations. First, is it extremely difficult to study in sweden or do you think it is possible for me to make it into a school? Secondly, how expensive is it? I understand tuition is free, but at the moment I receive financial aid to go to a community college (if that tells you anything about my situation). How much US cash would I need to have saved up in order to survive there without risk of starving or going homeless?

Thanks for the info.

Really, everything you need to know can be found here:

If you can organise some kind of exchange trip, your chances of financial support on this end are substantially better, as a non-EU citizen. Be aware that only master level and postgraduate courses are normally in English (there are exceptions, but in general...). So you'll probably need to start out with an intensive Swedish course.

The basic financial support paid out to Swedish students is around 6500 SEK a month (currently that's a little under 1000 USD), and assuming shared accomodation and careful budgeting, it's (sort of) enough to live on. I guess you know what I mean by that. You can probably work here to supplement, but that should give you an idea of what kind of money you need to have saved if you don't get a scholarship. There's more detailed cost of living figures on the site above.

I hope it works out for you.
