  • Can I sue my university for not having proper heating in residence halls?

I live in a university residence hall on campus, and in this below 50 degree temperature outside I am freezing my butt off indoors because of the lack of proper heating provided. I've been here only a day, but I still feel like the heating should be fixed since classes were set to resume today but were cancelled due to the extreme weather conditions. Sleeping was nearly impossible and I kept waking up because of the cold. My hands are frozen right now...is this a legit reason I can sue the university for?

  • Cheap apartments around South Loop Chicago?

Hi, I was looking at renting apartments while I'm in school in downtown Chicago. I really wanted to consider the South Loop but boy are they crazy expensive. I was wondering if anyone knew what the closest and safest area would be to the South Loop where I could find an apartment for around $500 or less? I'm a student, so that's the reason for the low pricing. If anyone knows of any studio or apartments available I would much appreciate it!

    Thank You!

  • Website Designing Help?

Hi, I was designing a website and I saw this image application on the Accounting firm Ernst & Young Website: http://www.ey.com/US/en/Services

How would I go about creating something like that where it shows each of the service lines they have and it transitions like they do here? Is there some coding already out there for it? Also, is there an official name for this kind of imaging?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Are there any cd softwares out there that will teach me how to use java or html or css? Which is a better one to learn, anyhow?

All I see are books online, I'd rather use a software over a book to learn.

    Thank You

  • Compound Interest? Accounting Help?

Hi, I was working on my homework for accounting, and for some reason, I can't come to the right answer for these:

A company receives a one-year note that carries a 12 percent annual interest rate on $6,000 for the sale of a used computer. Compute the maturity value under each of the following assumptions: Round your answers to two decimal places.

    (1) Simple interest is charged

--> This one I got correct at $6,360

    (2) The interest is compounded semiannually

    (3) The interest is compounded quarterly

    (4) The interest is compounded monthly

The tables for Annuity/Present Value are given and said can be used when appropriate. The tables can be found here:

    http://wps.aw.com/wps/media/objects/5448/5579249/A...

They are Table A-1 and Table A-2

I have no idea why I cant get these answers correct, I don't know what I am doing wrong =/

    Any help would be great!

  • WIFI issues with Iphone 3?

I purchased an unlocked Iphone 3 off of Ebay. I'm able to use it with T-Mobile, but I can't connect to WIFI at all with this iphone. I know my internet is fine, I'm using it with my Ipod Touch and my laptop, but this Iphone simply won't detect any networks at all.

I tried resetting the network settings already, and that didn't work. So now what I'm wondering is maybe updating to the latest firmware may do something?

If i restore this iphone and update to the latest firmware, can I unlock again and still have it functioning properly.

I heard Apple was bricking Iphones that it suspected of being unlocked without going through Apple. Will this happen if I restore the Iphone and try to update it? This is an Iphone 3 running 5.11.07 if it makes any difference.

    Thank You

  • Overworking Out? Insanity overexercising?

    Hi guys,

I've been doing Insanity for quite some time now. I've completed the entire calendar of 2 months twice through now I believe and have been doing the workout DVDs in a random order since then. For the past few months I've been working out almost everyday with these Insanity DVDs, and in some weeks, not taking a day break at all.

When I first started out doing Insanity I had a big improvement and got up to the point where I barely needed a break during the workouts.

Nowadays, I have been completely exhausted and need countless breaks while doing the workouts. Is it possible I'm overworking out since I havent been taking any days off while working out? Should I take a few days off before starting back up again, and how many days a week is the best amount for working out.

I'm a 19 year old female who currently weighs around 120 lbs and is 5'3". I've gained a couple lbs recently and I would like to get back to where I was and begin eating healthier, as well.

Thanks for your support and help guys! Really appreciate it!

  • ACCOUNTING Homework Help?

Hi, I was having some problems on these homework questions if anybody could help me with.

    1) Tony Garcia opened a small motorcycle repair shop, Garcia Cycle Repair, on January 2, 2009. The shop also sells a limited number of motorcycle parts. In January 2010, Garcia realized he had never filed any tax reports for his business and therefore probably owes a considerable amount of taxes. Since he has limited experience in running a business, he has brought you all his business records, including a checkbook, canceled checks, deposit slips, suppliers' invoices, a notice of annual property taxes of $2,310 due to the city, and a promissory note to his father-in-law for $2,500. He wants you to determine what his business owes the government and other parties.

You analyze all his records and determine the following as of December 31, 2009:

    Unpaid Invoices: $9000

    Parts Sales (excludes tax): 44270

    Costs of Parts Sold: 31125

    Salaries: 18200

    Repair Revenues: 60300

    Current Assets: 16300

    Motercycle Inventory: 11750

You learn that the company has deducted $476 from the two employees' salaries for federal income taxes owed to the government. The current social security tax is 6.2 percent on maximum earnings of $102,000 for each employee, and the current Medicare tax is 1.45 percent (no maximum earnings). The FUTA tax is 5.4 percent to the state and 0.8 percent to the federal government on the first $7,000 earned by each employee, and both employees earned more than $7,000. Garcia has not filed a sales tax report to the state (5 percent of sales).

Given these limited facts, determine Garcia Cycle Repair’s current liabilities as of December 31, 2009. Round your answer to two decimal places.

*The answer is 20152.10 ---- but i have no idea how they received that number =/

    2) Purchased a truck two years ago for $18,000 with an original six-year estimated useful life and $3,000 residual value. After a full two years of use, revised the residual value to $4,000 and the useful life to a total of seven years. Record depreciation for year 3, assuming the straight-line method.

*I keep receiving $1286 but it's not the correct answer, apparently =/ I'm not sure if its just a rounding error, or if I'm completely off =/

    3) Equipment is purchased for $80,000. It has an eight-year useful life and a $39,250 residual value. Under the double-declining-balance method, what is the depreciation expense for year 3?

*For this problem, I got the straight line rate of .25, and I receive a year 3 depreciation of $11250.........but this is not the correct answer, apparently. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong =/

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank You!

  • Accounting Net Sales Percentages?

I was attempting my accounting homework, but I'm having difficulty in figuring out how to calculate net sales percentage. Here's the question:

From the information provided, prepare a multistep income statement for 2010 and 2011 showing percentages of net sales for each component. Round percentages to one decimal place.

I have the income statement filled, but I can't get the net sales percentage for this.

A bit of the information I have includes:

    2011:

    Net Sales- 464200

    Cost of Goods Sold- 243880

    Gross Margin- 220320

    Selling Expense- 95160

    General & Admin Expense- 90840

    Total Operating Expense- 186000

    Income From Operations- 34320

    Interest Income- 1420

    Less Interest Expense- 5600

    Excess of Other Expenses- 4180

    Income Before Income Taxes- 30140

    Income Taxes-8000

    Net Income- 22140

    Earnings Per Share: 2.21

and then I have more information for year 2010, but same concept.

Some information given in the problem:

    Net Sales: 464200

    Interest Income: 1420

    Total Revenues: 465620

    Costs of Goods Sold: 243880

    Selling Expenses: 95160

    Gen & Admin Expenses: 90840

    Interest Expense: 5600

    Total Costs & Expenses: 435480

    Income Before Income Tax: 30140

    Income Tax Expense: 8000

    Net Income: 22140

I need a net sales percentage for each of these rows of information, other than E/P. I thought you would just divide each of these numbers by Net Sales, but I'm not receiving the correct answer.

If anyone could explain what I'm doing incorrectly, that would be awesome!! Thanks so much!!

  • 100K college debt uiuc?

The time to officially select a college is coming up, and I'm very unsure on where to go, still =\ . I got into university of Illinois champaign's business program, which is highly known for accounting, but it's sooooo expensive. My EFC is around $5300. Not considering loans, I received $7000 from financial aid, meaning I need to take out $26,000 in loans every year =\. That's over $100,000 in loans when I graduate! :( is this education even worth it? Should I just go to depaul university for business? I just don't like the city life for a college atmosphere, personally, but I would only pay 14,000 at depaul yearly with the scholarships I received from them.

Is a 100k debt normal for a public instate school like uiuc??

Any advice would be extremely helpful!

  • DePaul or University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign CPA/Actuarial Exams?

Hey, I have been admitted to both University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's business program and DePaul's business program. I'm not sure which to attend this fall =/ .

I know UIUC has a much better reputation, but it is also more expensive, and I was admitted into DePaul's Honor Program & their Strobel Scholars program.. not sure if I'm in UIUC's honors.

Also, DePaul has offered me a 50 grand scholarship, while UIUC isn't known for really giving out scholarship money. I know financially DePaul would be cheaper, but would I be missing out a lot on the college atmosphere or would the city allow me to have better connections than UIUC?

Which school would be better for my future and prepare me for CPA exams/Actuarial Exams? I'm really confused on which to go towards here.

Advice would be awesome!! Thank You!!

  • Should i think about law school?

im going to be majoring in accounting and possibly minor in actuarial science. i really enjoy government and law, so i was thinking about possibly going to law school after that. i was researching, and from what i've read everywhere, law school is not the best career move at the moment because of a lack of jobs for lawyers and underpaid salary for the amount of money put into law school. is this true? or is this just a total overestimation? should i just go the business/math route, then?

    any advice would be appreciated!

    thanks!

  • how to stop my family from harming my self esteem?

I dont know if my family means this or not..but honestly, i feel like they are continously on my back and making fun of me, like it's the normal thing to do. I have an older sister, a younger sister, and a younger little brother..so i'm kind of in the middle. my mom calls me a loser sometimes, and i think she says it as a joke..but honestly, it really does hurt since her and my sisters always make fun of me or bother me, probably because i tend to be the person who gets annoyed really quickly and always tell them to get out of my room..but i think that's because they always make fun of me. my family always depends on me to fix any computer problems they have since i'm the only one who takes the effort to google things and figure them out myself, and i always end up doing it for them..but i feel like that's the only thing they appreciate me for at all, which makes me really angry, causing me to be a jerk towards them at times. apart from my immediate family, everyone always pays attention to my older sister, and i'm just there i guess...i feel like my self esteem has been terrible ever since i was young because of this, and i'm not sure why i end up being the one like this and what i can do to solve it. it's not like i hate my family..far from it, actually. i look up to my parents and respect them, i don't go against their ordeals or anything....my sister does a lot more crap than i have ever done, and yet she's always the one people look up to and is the one treated 10x better..which i just can't get my head around...idk i just have so much confusion about what i can possibly do to fix my life up. any advice would help! =) thanks!
