Entomologist, retired but still active in research. I believe in love; chocolate muffins; my wonder-cat, the ineffable essence of the eternal now; the Fibonacci sequence; the Goldbach conjecture; the values of a good education; the inherent dignity of man; the coming of the Age of Aquarius; and the unending fight for truth, justice, and the American Way. Politically, I am a European-style social democrat (and proud of it).
How is death caused by sin? In most animals aging and death result largely from loss of telomeres, sulfide bonding of proteins, ?
and free radicals. These same chemical processes occur in humans. Why would these processes be harmless in humans if they are fatal in other animals?
3 個解答Biology1 年前At least one participant in this forum has the following beliefs. Does anyone (besides me) see troubling inconsistencies?
1) As a devout Christian, I expect to spend eternity in paradise.
2) My longtime, loving husband has always supported and protected me.
3) Unless my agnostic husband changes, he is doomed to suffer the fires of hell for eternity.
4) I believe in a loving, merciful God.

I've never had a cat before. My cat greets me with a "meow" when we meet outside. In bed he stretches out his "arms," wraps them around my neck in an embrace, rests his head on my chin or cheek, purrs, and falls asleep.

And neither one is the girl that I'll be with tonight.

*Singing* "Doo doptey doo, doptey doo, dopety-doo"
"Hee-yuk, hee-yuk, hee-yuk!"
"Well . . . hello there! . . . Mr. Bergen."

I'm studying specular reflection in dance flies, and I'm stuck on trigonometry. Imagine a circle with a right triangle inscribed. The hypotenuse is the radius of the circle, and one vertex rests on the center of the circle. What is the trigonometric function that describes the relationship between the angle of that vertex and the length of the opposite side (i.e., the side adjacent to the hypotenuse)? To clarify: When the vertex angle is very near 90 degrees, the length of the opposite side is very near the radius of the circle, and when the vertex angle is very near zero degrees, the adjacent side is very near zero. But what is the function that describes everything in between?

Here are my picks:
Toccata and Fugue in D minor (Bach)
Ode to Joy (Beethoven)
Ave Maria (Schubert)
Wimoweh (The Weavers)
Rhapsody in Blue (George and Ira Gershwin)
Fields of Gold (Sting)
Evening Raga (Ravi Shankar)
Bell Ringing in an Empty Sky (Goro Yamaguchi)
