This is a form of question that lawyers like to use. They ask the witness (knowing full well what the correct answer is) and the response either confirms the the point that is being made or casts doubt on the competence of the reply when they claim not to believe the truth. In that sense it is ambiguous: How can you believe me if I tell you that I love you, when you know I've been a liar all my life?
