I accidentally backfed 48v through an eBike programming cable into a laptop usb slot, now neither of the 2 slots work. Can this be fixed?

The programing cable is for a Bafang mid drive motor, and has a ch340 chip. I backfed the 48 volts through the far right pin, which is labeled 5v on the bottom side.

The laptop still functions but the USB slots are understandably now dead. Can someone tell me what component/components were destroyed, and perhaps even guide me in replacing it/them? I'm suspecting it will involve removing and soldering in a new component/s. Thanks

Steve

Thought there would be components to stop current from being pushed in through the USB port. Maybe there is and thats what you've blown take it in for a quote and pull the info out the technician and go fix it yourself if he wants too much. shame you've no Esata port to connect a hub..

Since both ports are dead, I suspect the controller on the MB is dead.  There is little hope of fixing that, provided that it could have done further damage.  If it were a desktop, then you could just install a PCIe/USB card.
