'How would' is a more polite way of asking for advice. It means something like: "if you were going to the train station, how would you go about getting there from here."

As a modal auxilliary verb it is more often used in speech as the past tense of will. It is also very useful when discussing hypothetical situations. How would we get to the train station? (use get to emphasise your need for directions.)How would he be able to find us? (similarly 'be able to' emphasises your need for details)How would I go about buying that car? ('go about' emphasises your need for a process to follow)How do you know his name?  - this is OK. How do I remember her phone number? This can only be used rhetorically. How do they make a plane? - this is OK.

Rather than would can or do would be better, assuming it is something that will be, as opposed to might be.
