"Pull up" has one meaning in the context of aviation, and a different meaning in the context of driving a land vehicle.  It means "to come to a halt near, next to, or in front of".  It is similar to the phrases "pull over", "pull into the next lane", "pull to the left/right", "pull in front of".  (With the exception of of "pull over", these other phrases don't necessarily include any suggestion of coming to a halt, in the way that "pull up" does.)

The source of these phrases is horseback-riding, when reins are pulled to direct or stop the horse.  Pulling either the left or right rein will command the horse to turn, while pulling both the left and right rein simultaneously will command the horse to stop.  Hence the derivation of "pulling up" at a certain spot.
