Recent experienced this issue......I just wasn't pushing in the reset button hard enough. I feel your frustration...….but work harder in pushing in the reset button...…….good luck.

Plug hair dryer in, and turn it on. Press the red button.
If it still doesn't work, go to panel box, and turn that circuit off. Remove the outlet. Take it to the hardware store. Buy a knew one. Install it. Turn the circuit on. Press the red button, if necessary.

I had this problem once and the circuit breaker was still on. Got a new GFCI outlet and it would work for a while and quit again. Turned out there should not have been a GFCI in the bathroom where it was. The first outlet of the circuit was in the garage and was GFCI also. Having two GFCI's in the same circuit is apparently not good. Took out the redundant one down the line one and problem solved.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I have tried resetting it without success. I will check the fuse box later today.

The test button on the leak detection (gfci) receptacle is there because they fail. A failed test indicates the receptacle needs to be replaced.
Before replacing it would be good to make sure no circuit breakers are tripped.

most likely -- check the breaker in the box that controls it. you may need to unplug items before it will work again.
if unplugging everything on the circuit that isn't working doesn't fix the breaker issue, then an electrician is needed. breakers in the box can and do go bad and need replacing. That isn't a task for the ordinary homeowner. [of course, if you're a tenant it's the landlord's problem at that point]

That' button' is the ground fault interruptor. It will pop out when that circuit breaker has been tripped. The rest button is meant to save you from having to go to the house's electrical box to reset the circuit breaker. When the rest button will not reset, first, check the electrical box to see if the circuit there was tripped. If it was, reset it and see what happens. Push the test button and then the rest button. If it soesn't reset, then the unit should be replaced.

That's a GFI Ground Fault Interrupter. Unplug devices and reset it by pressing the black button firmly. if it doesn't reset go to your fuse box and see if a breaker has tripped. Itll look half switched on. Push towards off push towards on.
GFI switches can and do wear out. If it will not reset the outlet needs to be replaced.
