How do I access special key functions on a Windows 10 tablet?

I have recently got an 8 inch tablet running Windows 10. I am quite used to using on-screen keyboards on Linux and Android systems, but it seems to me that Microsoft have a massive catch-up job to provide tablets that work as well as the others I have used.

I have some applications that require the use of the function keys normally found across the top of a real hardware keyboard. I also want to access the non-existent Alt key. I tried using Microsoft's help features, but these seem to have become almost totally useless in the last 10 to 15 years. Also, online help might be of some use, but not when I do not have a network connection when away from home.

If there is a way to input Alt and the F1 to F12 in the Windows 10 on-screen keyboard?

更新:

Opurt: thank you for your answer. Unfortunately, I cannot find either the Alt or the Fn key on the keyboard, so I cannot see how to make use of your answer.

There is the Ctl key, which allows me to do the usual Ctrl+C for copy and Ctrl+V for paste. But the other special keys do not appear.

更新 2:

Apologies to Opurt. I have now found a second on-screen keyboard that is enabled through the ease of access settings. This second keyboard includes all the keys normally found on a standard hardware keyboard. One is described as an on-screen keyboard and the other (the one I found first) is described as a touch keyboard.

Why the difference? Well the touch keyboard with its fewer keys can be used fairly well by using a finger on the touch screen.

更新 3:

While the on-screen keyboard with more keys in a smaller area is difficult to use quickly on an 8 inch tablet screen. Also, the latter keyboard with the extra keys is more difficult to invoke as it does not seem to have a keyboard button on the notification area to bring up the keyboard when it is required.

Any thoughts on getting to the full keyboard quickly will be appreciated.

更新 4:

I have just updated to the Creators' version (1703) of Windows 10, and the facility to switch to the different keyboard layout has appeared. It was not there on the previous version. Maybe Microsoft realised that they had missed it out previously, or some mystery setting got changed. They still haven't learned that I do not want settings I have previously configured changed back to their original state.

Opurt: you will get the Best Answer award if and when whatever is blocking it is released.

In the on-screen Keyboard, touch Alt, then Fn, then whatever F-key you want.

Pressing Fn turns the top row of numbers into F-keys. If you don't see Alt or Fn, press the Keyboard icon in the bottom-right and choose a different on-screen layout.

Update: Did you read that last bit? If there's no Alt or Fn, press the Keyboard icon and there are alternate layouts to choose, one of which includes those keys.
