I m already accepted to graduate school, but I want to take a year off. Advice?
Hello all,
I m a senior at my X university (I m going to call it X University, for anonymity reasons). I recently applied to a couple of graduate physical therapy programs. I was accepted to a neighboring school, University Y, and declined from my undergrad institution.
A little background: I have a 3.65 GPa, I work at University X s hospital (a lot of clinical experience), and know most of the PT school professors here. UX is a public school that very affordable and more reputable.
University Y is a private institution that I have already been accepted to. It is a smaller school, it s more expensive, and it is notoriously easy to get into.
Even though I m accepted a grad school, I want to forego that for the time being, and replace a few grades to raise my GPA. I then want to apply to much more competitive schools if I can.
Thoughs?

Why did you apply to a PT school you aren't actually comfortable going to? You can certainly attempt to raise some grades (make sure you are aware of policies - some will average the two grades, and some will take the later one). Or perhaps you can retake the GRE if that is an issue. However, you took a chance in only applying to two schools, one of which you aren't really comfortable with. There are often many applicants for every seat in the program and it is competitive. Talk with some PTs in the community about the school to which you were offered admission. Look at their NPTE pass rates. If it is not acceptable to you, then reapply to other schools that you would be comfortable going to.

Yes, you better take a year off raising your gpa while working earning some money rather than going to that private University. Ask your parents about it as well

How long can your acceptance be held?? If you've applied and were accepted, they can't hold it indefinitely. You need to think if you can wait. Plus one year can 'somehow' turn into others. You should learn how to manage both.
