What is your opinion on rural college campuses?

Do you find them too secluded from non-school society? Is it difficult to find time to make regular trips to a decent sized town?

Most rural colleges have a fairly decent level of "civilization" nearby the campus. Remember, colleges are pretty large communities, which include not only the students, but all the professors, support staff and service providers who live there year-round. They need shopping, restaurants, entertainment, etc., so businesses naturally sprout up around campus to support the needs of the college community.

Yes, there may be some things that aren't available without a trip to a larger town. But the nice thing about rural colleges is that when there's not much to do off-campus, there's usually tons to do on campus. Campus clubs and organizations are very active; activities and social events are well-attended. Rural campuses tend to have a much greater sense of community and involvement than urban colleges, where students spend more time away from campus, going their separate ways.
