Why do boxers have a slit in the front?

The slit is there so that one can pull the penis out through it to urinate. Some guys, like you, do not use it but fiddle about getting the penis over the top of the underwear, but most do make use of it.

Some makes of boxers have a button to hold the slit closed when not in use, or you could always change to briefs which will hold your genitals more securely.

Take a needle and thread and put a few stitches in the bottom end of slit in the boxers to make it a little smaller so your penis won't pop out. That worked for me when i was a kid.

The front slit in the boxers is for easy access to your penis when you need to pee or something.

thats exactly what it's made for..so you can pee from them without having to pull down your boxer shorts. Underwear (whitey tighties as i like to call them) have the same hole in the front..same function as a front zipper on pants or shorts. If you dont use the opening in the front, then sew them shut. My ex wife wore my old boxers all the time around the house and she would sew the front closed

It is exactly for peeing but as you noted, few guys ever use the fly. Buy pouch style briefs with no fly and your gear won't flop out- and more comfortable than boxers too plus give support. I don't know any guy who uses the fly in boxers or briefs.

You might pull yours out over the waistband, but most guys will pee through the slit.
