Install Windows updates when they're available, empty your cache/cookies/history regularly, I use free Ccleaner for this as it can remove registry junk also. After cleaning out the junk do a disk defragmentation once a week. If you want to avoid seeing ads, instal free Adblock Plus. Make sure you have an antivirus (AV) program installed and do a scan with it now and then, there are plenty of free AV programs like Avast or AVG. Many people also install free Malwarebytes as an additional safety check alongside your AV program. To check if any of your drivers need updating go to Device Manager and click on each item listed and click Update and Windows will look to see if the driver needs updating and if so, it will try to find a new driver to install.
