2 year old calling me 'papa' instead of 'mama'. Is that common?
He's a bit of a slow starter with talking, but is going through a great spurt in that area. New words are appearing every day. So I'm not worried, I just think this is odd.
He'd been calling his dad 'papa' (the word for 'dad' in Dutch) for almost a year now, but 'mama' wasn't happening yet. I assumed that was in part because I'm always there, he doesn't feel the need to ask about me. But now I'm suddenly papa too? Even mums in books are now all 'papa'.
Is this common at his age? He turned 2 years old last September.

Maybe his sinus is blocked so he might have been saying mama but it sounds like papa. If that is not the case then maybe try see if he can pronounce other words with the letter M. See if he actually can pronounce the letter M properly. If he can then maybe he just really wants to call you papa.
If you notice that he can't actually pronounce the letter M, it is time to get him checked and you might need a speech therapist.

That's sounds a little concerning. I'm a nanny and the little boy I used to watch had the same habit and also had delayed speech but we discovered that he learning/intellectual disabilities and with it came the fact he had a difficulty understanding that different people had different names. He called me, his, his dad and everyone else
daddy. But that's just his situation of course.
