possibly nothing!
the gov't is not paying you for having children
when you file your income tax return if the child was born during the year, you claim the personal exemption just like you do yours
this is NOT a refund
since you have an amount of income that is not taxable it is very possible you won't owe any taxes and you won't 'get back" anything other than what was withheld
if this earned income you are entitled to the EIC credit which is based on your earned income with an additional amount for one child
this is not 'getting back' because it was never withheld from your pay

No amount is available to any one JUST FOR having a baby during the tax year at all.
When you are still a dependent of another taxpayer for the tax year you can NOT claim your own self on your own 1040 FIT return for your own exemption and neither would you be allowed to claim your new born baby as a dependent on your own 1040 FIT return during the 2015 tax filing season for the 2014 tax year.
Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 07/19/2014

You get back no money just for having a baby, unless there is also some other reason for you to get back money, such as having worked or having income.
If, hypothetically, there is some other reason, then you might get back more because of the baby, but the amount you get back depends on that other reason.
For example, if you have paid income tax, then you might get back some of it because of the baby, but the amount depends on how much income tax you paid.
For example, if you worked, then they might get back money through the earned income credit because of the baby, but the amount depends on how much money you made at the job where you worked.
If you didn't work and didn't pay income tax, then you don't get anything.

Go to WWW.IRS.GOV and click on a link that says "FORM & PUBS" then "CURRENT FORMS & PUBS" then type "PUBLICATION 17" in the search box. How much you'll get back depends on your income, adjustments, filing status, how many dependents you'll claim, how many exemptions you'll claim, if you will claim your own exemption, will you be using the standard deduction or itemized deduction. what tax credits you'll be claiming, how much withholding you will have. the type of income you'll be reporting (if you were self-employed, you may be liable for self-employment tax.) and if you made any estimated payments, as you can see there are several factors that come into play when determining your tax liability. and if you overpaid, how much you'll receive as a refund.

When you file, if you have income, if you are not a dependent, ifyour child lived with you and you claim the child...too many its to have an idea.

How much do you make? Is the baby your dependent? Are you a dependent yourself?
if you cannot make it to the library, go to www.irs.gov. Read the info there, or find out how to order tax books and forms.
