How to hide or get rid of a cigarette burn in carpet?

I let my cousin move in with me for a few months while he was having financial and health problems. He is a very sweet and kind hearted guy, but incredibly clumsy. Per my apartments rules, we cannot smoke on the balcony because it is too close to other residents windows and "common" areas, but smoking in the apartment is allowed by the building.

Long story short, one morning I wake up to find that he has left a cigarette burn in my carpet, which I was incredibly angry about because it looks horrible.

I can't stand to look at it, it is a white carpet and the burn stands out like a sore thumb. It is a deep burn that goes about 75% of the way down thru the rug, but not completely thru.

It is your pretty typical bare bones carpet of short-medium thickness. White (or a slight off white).

Does anyone know any ways to mask, remove or hide the burn? Eventually I may want to recarpet the living room, but I don't have the money to do so. Asking my cousin to pay for it is not an option, as he has already moved out of state, and makes very little money.

Remove all the burned carpet pile all the way down to the backing. Look for some same type carper, maybe in the closet or in a corner somewhere where there is little traffic and cut that amount out down to the backing. Carefully apply Supper glue only to the mat where the burned carpet pile was removed and pace the new carpet fibers in the hole. It will take about 15 minutes to set. you will have to remove all the burnt fibers and replace them all or the place will still have a stained look. Slightly burnt fibers can be trimmed with scissor or a razor blade.

Besides having to look at the burn while you live there, if you leave it for the landlord to repair (now or when you leave) you'll undoubtedly be overcharged.

#1 call your renter's insurance agency and see if your policy covers the damage. #2 even if insurance doesn't cover the repair, ask the insurance agent for the name of a good carpet repair outfit they use.

Hopefully there is a remnant of the carpet that can be used to patch the burned spot - - - it should be easily repaired and invisible when they are done. If no remnant is available, the repairman would cut out the patch and swap it for a patch from an area that isn't seen (in a closet, behind curtains, where furniture always stands, etc).

A good repairman will remove the damaged area, put special adhesive backing in, install patch, bond to the backing with a heating iron, and trim the nap so as to be invisible . . . . and permanent.

This is what I did...... Take a bottle top or somthing that is a bit bigger than the size of the burn place over the burn and cut round the bottle top with a very sharp blade so you cut the burn out and leave a round hole in the carpet, next you want to find somewhere where you cant see the carpet eg: under tv, sofa, cabinet etc, place your bottle top onto carpet, if patterned carpet try and get exact match to the burnt piece you already cut out, use a small amount of fabric adhesive on back of un burnt cut out and place it back where the burn cut out was. When dry, use a brush in circular motion to blend carpet fibres together! Do the same with the burnt piece, place it back where you cut out un burnt piece, if you take it from behind a door, can you not get a rubber door stop and screw that in, it will save your walls when the door opens too! Really hope you understand all this, it really worked for me and noone has noticed its been done!! I have quit smoking now so it will never happen again, lol! Good Luck xx
