What's the best recording software?

I'm looking to do a little youtube-ing, but I'm having a bit of trouble finding a screen-capture recording software. I downloaded Fraps, but I'm iffy about paying for it before I start the channel to see how it'll do.
Right now, I'm looking at Open Broadcaster Software, Free Screen to Video, & Ezvid. Ezvid sounds really controlling since it wants to do everything itself. I mean, I like that it uploads directly to the 'tubes, so no storing tons of video, but I have 1 TB of space; I can live with recording it to my harddrive and editing.
I'm asking instead of trying these programs because everyone talked up and down about CamStudios, but it ended up giving me malware, so I want some second opinions about safe, reliable, and convenient programs.

I use Debut http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/index.html to do screen capture recordings. It's really easy to use and has lots of options like whether it records audio from the computer.
