You should get an appointment with a VET as soon as possible.

What you are describing is likely the result of a health problem. Medical care is necessary. You can clean his fur with a warm washcloth, but won't eliminate the problem.

It could be a dietary issue, a deficiency in some nutrient. If you are unable to take him to the vet, perhaps look into a dietary supplement for rabbits.

It may be something else, though. Thyroid conditions often cause fur issues in animals.

Sounds like he could just be molting (Shedding old coat and growing in new) 9 months is a normal time for rabbits to molt as they have reached adult hood. When a rabbit molts the hair loses color, dies and falls out. When it does so sometimes it gets matted so a brushing will usually take care of it.

Some rabbits are just dirty one of my rabbits does this and though it's down right nasty there is nothing wrong.

To clean it you can fill the bath tub with 2 inches of luke warm water and wash his bum with baby shampoo. I suggest a good brushing all over.

If you notice any of the following take him to the vet ASAP:

    Urine Burns

Decrease in poop size or amount or diarrhea

    Stops or slows eating/drinking

    Loss of energy

    Bald Spots

    ect.

This is likely caused by health problems and the situation would need to be evaluated by a vet as soon as possible. In the meantime cut out any treats you're feeding him.
