Minecraft 1.8.2 Beta question (Vanilla)?

I was playing Minecraft on my brother's creative world one day and found out about a Herobrine totem. I flew up to the top of a tree, put 9 gold blocks down, put a netherrack in the middle, placed a redstone torch on the gold blocks near the sides and lit it. i then made a trench and looked around after hearing fires. i noticed that 6 trees caught fire. i then tried to create a snow golem and was being pushed by nothing before finishing it. could the totem have spawned Herobrine, but invisible? i used no mods at all until downloading the aether mod
