I've seen this off of Tumblr and Twitter before. You've missed the word "A" at the beginning.

The joke is this: A professor wrote the sentence "A woman without her man is nothing" on the board and asked the two halves of the class (males vs. females) to punctuate it correctly. The guys in the class punctuated it like-so: "A woman, without her man, is nothing." The girls in the class were then asked to punctuate it how they would. They got up, erased both of the commas, and instead punctuated it like this: "A woman: without her, man is nothing."

There ya go.

I just can't punctuate it; there's more going on in that fragment of yours than just to add any sort of punctuation mark. I'm a female.

A woman without her man is nothing. The way it stands it's a bold faced generalization. I can say a man without his woman is nothing and there I go again making a bold faced generalization. It's like declaring a woman will be nothing without her man or a man will be nothing without his woman. We don't know that for sure. Let's put it as, a woman without her man is a woman without her man. A man without his woman is a man without his woman. There; now it's fact.

A woman without her man is nothing. Male.

Woman are nothing without man.

Woman without a man is something.

The two classic schemes are:

Woman, without her, man is nothing.

Woman without her man is nothing.

Both are kind of awkward.

Too bad there's no way to punctuate the sentence to make it not sound idiotic.
