How long do Inca Gold snails usually live?
I have had two in a row, and they both only lived for a few months. The last one was fine until I changed the water and scrubbed the algae out of the tank. My betta is fine, but the snail croaked. (I even tossed in some "sinking wafers" for the snail to munch on until the algae started to grow back.) Am I doing something wrong? Or are they just a very short-lived species?

golden fresh water snails are usually call mystery snails , mystery snails can live up to 3 yrs or even longer if they being kept in proper conditions.
Snails not only need to be fed with algae, snails need to be fed of variety of foods like vegetables such as lettuce, cucumbers also some sinking pellets like blood worm pellets .
also all snails need calcium in their water to keep their shells strong , with out calcium their shells can look cracked and it can easily cracked . usually i do use budgie calcium fish cuttle bone for my snails to keep their shells strong.
also medication and salt can harm snails especially medications which contain copper.
Poor water quality can affect snails too , as i know mystery snails produce a lot of waste.
Usually when the snail is dead, they do pollute the tank water quickly as they start to rote. usually when you take the snail out of the tank and if the snail is dead they stink like rotting eggs .
