I fly both on a regular basis. I like both a lot - in fact some days I just get in the mood to fly 1 over the other. I did a lot of my flight training in a 172, and I'm doing my instrument rating in it. I would suggest the 172, primarily because for a long time to come, that is what you will be flying - or at least something similar. As the other guys mentioned, the increased useful load is great as well. My father and I, if we were going to fly a Cessna 152, would be limited to only around 7 gallons of fuel due to weight.

Irv, the 182 has the controllable pitch prop. The 172's is foxed - except for on the 172XP (yes, XP, not SP)

I would consider the 152 and the 172 as the easiest airplanes to fly -

Both are very similar - one is for 2 people, the other 4 people -

You can fly one to learn to fly (get licenses) -

Then with a 1 hour training learn the minor differences to fly the other -

The 172 is not "more difficult" to fly than the 152 -

The answer is yes. They are both easy to fly, that's not a determining factor in deciding between the 2 for training.

The 152 is cheaper to fly, but they are pretty snug and have limited useful load. If both you and your instructor are even a little over average size, you may never be able to carry full fuel, and you will be very familiar with each other's elbow.

The 172 is more expensive to rent, but far more comfortable for most people, and since it is still in production, you can rent one with far more current avionics, and in far better condition.

both are famously easy to fly. the 152 is lighter, and can be a handful in wind. the 172 feels much heavier.

the 152 will be cheaper to train in.

Just about anywhere in the world you can find a 172. The 172 feels a bit better to me. Fly what you can afford. Nothing against the152. Sooner or later I think everybody seems to put time in a 172. Either plane is nicer than what I learned to fly in.

They are practically the same aircraft..

Just the C152 seats 2 less powerful engine has a carburetor, cant carry as much fuel and the C172 seats 4 more powerful, some models are fuel injected and can have an endurance of about 5 hours

It depends on how big you are and how much you weigh..

If you are huge you may not fit into a C152..

They're both equally easy. The 152 is cheaper. Why spend more money than you need to?

They handle very similar, but the 172 requires that you manage a controlled pitch propeller.

    Start on the 152.

Dang it, this is just for real pilots. I would say that they are very similar, if not the same, having flown both.

they're more or less the same aircraft and either one is as good as the other so this question is kinda pointless really
