Can my Macbook run SimCity?

It will run.

SimCity itself uses over 1GB of RAM, about 2.5GB of disk space, and I find it is not that CPU intensive on the older Core 2 Duo CPU so your newer Core i5 is fine. The Intel HD 3000 is [roughly] on the same level as the older Nvidia GeForce 320M that it replaced.

Setting 'lighting' to min with shadows to 'off', SC runs beautifully smooth. It's not elegant like the way promotional images depict but it's definitely playable. Hope you don't mind a bland sky and non-reflecting water. I was able to keep the other settings such as textures and animation detail to 'high'. I didn't notice any jitter zooming and rotating the camera.

SimCity has its flaws but I find it fun to play nevertheless. It'll improve as time goes on. I didn't fully enjoy SimCity 4 from the start until they released the Rush Hour expansion pack. Ditto with SimCity 3000 until SimCity 3000 Unlimited came out.

Since the hardware of macbooks can vary a lot depending on where you bought it you should probably ask your local mac store.

Mac's are very weak for gaming so i don't really recommend them, you can get a steady 15 fps at low settings thought. but really, i recommend PC's, macs are weak and you can get the same specs for a like a 60% lower price, all mac is a shiny laptop with a crappy OS.
