    It wouldn't make any difference.

    You could call it either clockwise or counterclockwise even now, depending on your perspective. If you're observing from one side of the orbital plane, it appears to be counterclockwise, and from the other it appears counterclockwise. If you're thinking appear from above to be in counterclockwise orbits, the only reason for that is that you've defined "above" to be the direction from which it appears the planets are in a counterclockwise orbit. Since there is no "up" or "down" in space, you could just as easily define "above" to be in the other direction, from which the orbits would appear to be clockwise.
