Any conflict can be settled by a war. With a lot of emphasis on ANY conflict. The question is whether that is the best option. The answer to that question is usually no. As to the little dispute going on over those rocks the answer is no. It is not worth it.

Wars rarely settle such disputes. Even the Falklands War didn't stop Argentina from continuing to claim the islands. Several wars in the Middle East haven't stopped some Palestiniaisn claiming the whole territoy of Israel. Nor did wars put an end to the Spanish claim to Gibraltar.
You could drop some really big nuclear weapons on the islands - blow them away completely, and there would be no islands left to squabble about.

Yes..any conflict can be settled with war. And looks like there's no other option right now between china and Japan. Going to war with each other, however detrimental it might be for both countries, is the ultimate way to solve the territorial dispute once and for all. Setting aside the dispute for now would mean there will be a war sooner or later in the future.

japan has a pacifist constitution, they only have a self DEFENCE force, so they can't be the aggressor in any war. if china launches an attack, the us is almost certain to get involved, and neither china nor america wants to start a conflict which could easily escalate out of control and end in ww3.
so no.
