mouldy smell from kitchen cupboards?
I have a mouldy smell coming from under-counter cupboards in kitchen. One cupboard houses an electric water heater. The smell permeats the entire apartment, and my lungs and chest are now hurting. Could the smell be coming from the GSW John Wood Water Heater? I can smell the odour the minute I enter the apartment. If it's not the water heater, I will have to search for another source. Thank you.
The water heater is electric, so I doubt if it would be carbon monoxide. Wouldn't that be present if the water heater is gas powered? Tks for your suggestion, tho - and I'll get the Prop. Managers to look at it again. My lungs and chest hurt, so it could very well be mould of some kind. The apt. was empty for 4 months before I moved in.

Try wiping everything in the cupboards with white vinegar. Use a sprayer to spray to into hard to reach places. If it is mold the vinegar will kill it and you should notice an improvement in the air quality within 24 hours.

That doesn't sound right at all. Firstly, get a Carbon Monoxide detector. It sounds like there's a small leak from the water heater and over time it's gotten worse and worse as it's stagnant water in an enclosed area. Get it serviced.
