Can someone explain the natural cycles that are alleged to be causing the current global warming?

Looking at the responses from climate change skeptic and deniers I can’t help but notice that they have a propensity to quote politicians, journalists, bloggers and others with no relevant knowledge of the climatic systems of our planet.

With millions of scientists in the world working in fields that relate to global warming and climate change, there must be no shortage of experts who can provide evidence that climate change is not being influenced by human activities.

Please can you name some of the suitably qualified or experienced people who refute the theory of manmade global warming? It would also be interesting to know their field of expertise and, if possible, why they question global warming.

Please note, I’m a climate scientist myself so please avoid silly answers such as ‘they’re afraid to speak up’ or ‘their work gets discarded’, the reality is quite the opposite.

This is one of five questions I’m asking, please see my other questions.

Thanks in advance to all who answer.

You can find the history of genuine research on natural cycles in climate change in Weart's book "Discovery of Global Warming" and on his website. It was long called the "riddle of the ice ages." In most of the examples discussed by Weart, these scientists -over many decades- looked (often quite skeptically) at the theories of Tyndall and Arrhenius and the research of Callendar etc. Nearly every even halfway plausible-sounding argument recycled by Marshall Institute, Heartland, etc. (and their 8th derivative copy-catters on Yahoo Answers) has already been exhaustively examined in peer-reviewed studies, many of them long before today's delinquent denier clowns had even heard of the subject.

    To Bob:

<<Simple. It's the same natural cycles that have been causing global warming and cooling since time began. So far no alarmist has been able to explain how those natural would have stopped only to be replaced by man.>>

Guess what? No 'alarmist' claims that the natural climate cycles have stopped nor that they have been replaced by man. That is something you have made up yourself singlehandedly (very likely because you have a gross misunderstanding about the issue as a whole).

'Natural cycles' do not happen all by themselves as you appear to believe. Something, a natural event', needs to trigger them and that is what Trevor is refering to. A volcanic erruption or a slight tilt in earth's axis are two such events.

Can you name such a trigger and explain, preferably with the use of peer-reviewed papers, which 'natural cycles' can be held responsable for the currently observed climate changes within the 1900 to present time-frame?

Known natural cycles do not explain current global warming. The main problem with the idea that current global warming is natural is that no known natural forcing has shown a trend that could explain this current global warming. Solar activity has shown a downward trend over the last fifty years and Earth's orbital variations have been in a very slow cooling trend for the last 6,000 years.
