Do I have to take 3 years of Spanish to get into a UC college?
I live in California, and today we were choosing our classes for next year (junior year) in class, and the lady who was leading the process said I have to take 3 years of Spanish to get into a UC college. But i didn't get why, I'm going to be a theater/performing arts major and i'm not interested in actually learning Spanish. Would taking 3 years of Spanish make me look good to colleges or something? I've gotten A's in Spanish the whole time I've taken it, but i'd much rather be in yearbook and theater. What colleges actually require 3 years of Spanish? I know that UCLA recommends it, but do i NEED it to have a good chance at getting into a good college?

Two years of foreign language is required and three years is recommended for the UCs. You don't NEED three years to be admitted to the UCs; but having three years will make you more competitive, and having four years will make you even more competitive still.

3 years of the same foreign language is recommended for the UC system. If you go onto any UC website, look under admissions requirements and see what classes you need to qualify for admittance. It's 3 years. If you were planning to attend a CSU, then you only need 2. Yearbook is not a CP (college prep) class, this is an elective whereas a foreign language is a CP.
