Will I have to tell the police I have a dash cam?

I setup a dash cam. I never needed one before, but I set one up anyway.

When/if I get into an accident (or witness an accident)….do I have to tell the police that I have a dash cam?

Will the cop confiscate my camera and take it into evidence? I don’t want my camera taken.

I am thinking if I witness something, then not mention the dash cam…then i can post it on youtube, and say I forgot about it.

Or if a cause an accident, just not say anything. Will I get into any trouble if the other person lies, like he claims 3 other injured passengers that weren’t really there….then I say “oh ya, I got it on video”?

Just wondering what the best course of action is at the scene.

Got a message about what kind of dash cam do I have and how I mounted it.

I got a Sony Bloggie (mhs-ts20) its not meant to be a dash cam, but I use it anyway.

I found that 720p at 60 frames per second works best….the 1080p at 30fps made very large files, and 720p at 30fps kinda sucked for driving…those are you only 3 choices.

I took 2 old Sony Walkman armband straps (all Velcro and elastic), and looped them around my passenger side Visor….then just slide my bloggie in those, and it works.

Bloggie isn’t meant to be a dash cam, because it turns itself off at exactly 30 minutes (very annoying). The machine heats up quick, and i have to charge it every other day. but it is on sale for $99 at best buy

    It's very legal and you don't have to out yourself at all. You'll need evidence if you go to court and if it's confiscated your proof is gone. I wouldn't announce it at an accident either. However, be careful what you say on it too. It may work against you. Saying your sorry for something is an admission of guilt. Have a lawyer look at it before you show it to anyone.

    Sometimes they are going to with courtesy ask you to do anything and permit you to count on it is an order. E.g. "Would you brain emptying your wallet please". Did they honestly order you to show the cameras off? Did you especially ask them if you happen to needed to flip the cameras off, and what they could do if you happen to refused?
