How do I release the parking break?

Had my '95 Toyota Corolla parked for 2 months on a slight incline (nose down) with the parking break on. Went to drive it yesterday and the break was stuck on. Had my son give the car a little push and it released, but not all the way. It is still grinding a little as I started to drive (thus I parked the car and took the other one).

Anyone know what I could do to get it to release all of the way? What would I look for? Any descriptions need to be fairly detailed since I've never worked on breaks, but I'm not afraid of getting under the car (I'm a girl who changes her own oil). Or should I just drive into my repair shop (about 5 miles) with the break as is?

Thanks for your suggestions.

you shouldn't drive it because you could overheat your drums causing them to Warp and or get hard spots. If you are not able to get the brake to release your self and need to get it to a shop than you should have it towed on a flat bed Truck. when you call the tow company make sure you specify that you need them to send out a flat bed truck.

  • You might need to take the rear wheels off and spray some WD-40 on the link cables then pull the emergency break and release few times until it's operates normal. Good luck...!

in case you have a 2005 and up Charger it somewhat is acceptable. in case you pull out the trim panel below the left fringe of the sprint, you have gotten the potential to work out the parking brake mechanism bolted on the left side physique physique. there's a rod which connects to the launch cope with. discover that rod and pull on it, its the parking brake launch. stable success.
