You want to get a touring bike... A Trek 520 would be a great choice, and a trailer. Camp, and cookout along the way. Using State camp Grounds and showers as much as possible.

Starting off, a touring bike is the best choice for a long distance ride like that. You need a bike equipped to carry your baggage, so it will need a good rack, and you will need a set of pannier bags. If you can't afford hotels, you will also need camping gear. I don't know if you have any idea about how much you think a bike should cost, but you are looking at something at close to $1000. Figure about half again as much for all the additional gear you will need. Even if you can find a way to sleep somewhere indoors and don't need camping gear you will still need to set aside money for panniers and racks. You will need suitable clothing and footwear for cycling, running shoes and athletic shorts won't cut it for long distance riding. Then you will need a food budget. Riding long distances every day will burn huge amounts of calories, you will need more food than your normal diet. Maps are the least of your worries, you start by getting a good bike and starting your training, riding long distances every day is much harder than you might think

You want to get a good touring bike and racks and panniers to carry gear. Use Google maps and use the bicycling option. You need to train and be able to ride 60-75 miles or more a day with a loaded bike. You will need to find campgrounds or stealth camp.
