What is the best street/area in Portland Oregon is the best for shooting senior portraits?
Hi, I don't have enough money to hire a professional so I'm having a friend photograph me downtown portland oregon and I'm not very familiar with portland and was wondering what the best street or area is to take my photographs... thank you so much!

Man, if it was a little bit later in the spring I might suggest any of the gorgeous parks and gardens in Portland, like the enormous Forest Park, the International Rose Test Garden, the Chinese Garden, the Hoyt Arboretum, the Japanese Garden, etc. Pittock Mansion can be nice too (3229 NW Pittock Dr, Portland, OR 97210). SW Park Ave, which contains the "South Park Blocks" has some interesting architecture as it is by the Portland Art Museum, Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall (where one of the iconic "Portland" signs are), Portland State University and some of the older churches in the area. The trees on the Park Blocks also look completely stunning...in the Summer and Fall ^__^;;. The many Farmers Markets and the Saturday Market have started up now and there's always something colorful going on there, but it might be a bit too crowded to get a peaceful photo taken. Oh, and there's the large decorated Chinese archway in "Old Town" (Portland's tiny, rather dilapidated China Town).
I guess it depends on what type of photo you want. I hope you have fun and get a great picture!

Because you specify "downtown" I'll focus on the downtown area.
There are a number of fountains in the central city area that may make a good back drop.
The Chinese Garden is downtown.
The Water Front along the Willamette River has some areas that you might like.
Across from the Water Front you will find the Saturday Market there are many opportunities for good pictures there.
WIth some creativity you might find the trolley tracks/and cars to be fun to catch your image riding it or just waiting for it to arrive.
Pioneer Courthouse Square is the city's "Front Room" across from it is the old Post Office you can go to the top of the tower and take pictures with the city surrounding you.
You can get literature and maps about the central city area from a visitors center or the chamber of commerce when you get into the city. All of the areas I have listed would be found on the maps and will allow you the enjoyment of exploring the downtown area.
Enjoy our city and get some good shots!

When I picture Senior Pics, I picture studio or park settings. For that, Waterfront park is probably one of your better bets. The park blocks may also be workable since they have trees and some shrubbery, but your 'friend' will likely need to have proper fill lighting since the area can be dark because of the tall buildings.
The park in the Pearl next to Fenouil may work.
Aside from that, cross the river up to Esther Short park, it's a great spot for photos because of all the trees, plants, and foliage.

I would definitely suggest the rose garden. The one with all the roses and flowers. There are numerous lovely photo opprotunuties through out it
(smelling flowers for example)
